The Schaumburg Business Association was honored to bring the first chapter of the national program to the state of Illinois on July 28, 2022. Lemonade Day creates youth entrepreneurs as they start, own and operate their very own business – a lemonade stand. Schaumburg Business Association businesses, members, and families partnered with the Schaumburg Park District summer camps who were all empowering today’s youth to become tomorrow’s business and community leaders.
Participants were stationed throughout the community and totaled 28 stands, with an average revenue of $280, with a few earning over $600! The stands created their own theming and lemonade recipes. Some of the stands outstanding kids chose to donate their profits.
The business mentor at U.S. Waterproofing shared a little about their experience stating, “It was incredible. The entire program is amazing. We love helping, mentoring, hosting the kids of USW. They each really put everything they had into this and took away a lot form the experience. They learned everything from making marketing material, to marketing, to calculating cost of goods so they can figure out pricing, to running the stand, counting money, and customer service. We will be doing this going forward every year!”
The 2022 Schaumburg Lemonade Day’s Main Squeeze sponsor was Links Technology Solutions and our Fresh Squeeze sponsor DJ’s Auto Body, both of which are long time Schaumburg businesses who invested to help inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs. Dan Origer of DJ’s Auto Body helped award Entrepreneur of the year at this morning’s Good Morning Schaumburg, along side the other awards, best lemonade stand and best tasting lemonade. Even in its first year, the program was a huge success. The SBA looks forward to expanding the program in years to come, having witnessed the magic that happens when kids are introduced to entrepreneurship in a thriving business community who is there to support it.
