Schaumburg Business Association Young Professionals

Assemble Smoke Alarm Kits for Fire Departments

In August, members of the Schaumburg Business Association’s  (SBA) “Young Professionals Group” gathered at the IFSA office in Mount Prospect to assemble 80 smoke alarm installation kits. Through the partnership with First Alert, the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance (IFSA) will be hosting a series of press events throughout the state to educate the public on a new Illinois smoke alarm law, which will take effect in the near future. By the end of 2022, single and multi-family homes still using smoke alarms with removable batteries will be required to have new alarms that feature 10-year non-removable sealed batteries, with a few exceptions. The IFSA believes that Illinois residents should not wait to comply with the new law and that everyone should start better protecting their homes and family with these life-saving devices.
In addition to hosting a press event at the Schaumburg F.D. on September 9th, media events will be held at the Berwyn, Carpentersville, Charleston, Frankfort, Galena, Macomb, and Waukegan fire departments. Host departments will be receiving 10 installation kits and 100 First Alert 10-year concealed battery smoke alarms. Each installation kit includes a tool bag, drill, drill bit kit, tape measure, anchor kits, and screws. The lifesaving tools and equipment that will be provided to each fire department is valued at approximately $3,200.
The Schaumburg Business Association aims to improve the quality of life and economic vitality of the Schaumburg area. The SBA represents more than 800 businesses and 4,000+ active SBA members, of all sizes and from all major industries. The Young Professionals Group is an ambitious and diverse group of young professionals connected by the SBA with the purpose of creating networking relationships, enhancing professional skills, engaging civically, and providing career resources for future leaders. The IFSA is thankful for the great support from the members of the SBA Young Professionals!
